TF2 PETITION: SUPPORT THE MODDERS
"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."
I’m asking all the admins and every member of 8U to support and sign a petition by Allied Modders to Valve over there recently updates to TF2. What many of you will not know is that Valve are now preventing plug-ins and modding authors attaching entities to players. This has meant a number of highly popular mods and plug-ins not working on all TF2 servers around the world.
In our case this has meant the ‘Equipment Manager’ (hat mod) is now redundant on our server. We can’t even attach our own made ‘8U Admin Fez’ to our admin players. We created this hat so you people could easily identify our admin if you had any questions, problems or wanted help whilst on the server. We were very proud of this and we believe this has pay dividends over the last 8 months. This has also allowed you people to experiment with different hats on different classes. The Spy’s camera beard out the Scout is an awesome look!
The petition is asking for Valve to reconsider their recent decision. As server managers we find it strange that Valve has repeated prise the modding community of TF2 for their hard work and creativity recently (e.g. the new community made hats and weapons) and yet have now made arbitrary limit on modding creativity.
Valve games have always been mod friendly and this is one of the reasons for the longevity of their games, Valve has been one of the few game companies that are quite open with their games that allow these kinds of things to thrive.
Please go to the link below at Allied Modders and read the petition and go to the second link listed below to sign it. The petition will ask for your Steam ID and password, but this through Valve’s Community site, protected by Valve's EV SSL certificate and is just to verify people and to avoid spam. You have nothing to worry about; I would not promote or sign up something myself (Signature 704) if I thought it would jeopardize the security of my or your Steam account.
I also implore if you’re a member of another clan/community or if you’re a server manager or modder yourself, then please spread the word to other Clan/Steam friends and groups and start posting on other gaming community forums about this.
This is your time to make a difference.
