Clan Event - Orange Wednesday
Each Wednesday we are going to upload 5-6 mod maps onto the TF2 server and we want you guys and your friends to join us and try out these maps and tell us on the forum, which you like playing and which ones you didn’t, with the popular maps being added to the map rota.
The event will start 8pm UK time and will continue to on till 8am the next morning, so that give our North America members the chance to join and play if they can’t join immediately at that time.
The map list for this week’s event, (16/09/09), is listed below. I’ve already mention these maps already on the forum and we have played a few of them on the server already, but we never play them probably yet.
If you like to take part then please ensure you download and install the maps for that week before the event! You will need to download and install each map into this directory:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\"your username e.g. Kenny"\team fortress 2\tf\maps
Don’t download them through the server itself on the night for various reasons. If you have any problems with installing the maps, then please tell us in this thread and we will help you out.

For obvious reasons, downloading the maps will put strain on the server, so getting them now will allow easier access to play. However, one thing- are these maps being forced on the rotation as the ONLY maps for the night, so we can properly evaluate them? Otherwise we'll get pipeline disruption... as per usual.

Clan Event - Orange Wednesday 17/09/09
Last Wednesday’s clan event went really well and the people who took part enjoyed it, despite a few technical problems that we suffered. Some of you may of notice that a few new maps have been loaded onto the map rota, (Moonwalk, Redfort & Cruise). Please try these maps out on the server as Moonwalk and Redfort are really made maps and as we got the fast downloader working now on the server, so it will only takes 20-30 seconds to download each map through it, but we still advise you to download and install the maps before hand.
This weeks maps are:
arena_wow (3Mb) (It's about a third down the page Not the CSS version!)
We were planning to play this map last week, but we had technical difficulties getting it to work, so we are going to reload this map again and give it a proper try out. This is a TF2 arena version of the WoW arena Circle of Blood. It’s a very small arena map for TF2 so it’s best played with small teams or melee weapons only.
cp_boulder (20Mb) (It's about half way down the page)
Another map we had technical problems with, so again we will reload this one. cp_boulder is a big sized capture point map like cp_dustbowl with 3 stages and 2 capture points on each stage.
cp_freight final (31Mb)
I have on good authority that is a well made map and hugely enjoyable. This is a map where trains mean business, literally. The map has an 'S' shaped structure with two rails running through the map, from each teams last point, towards the middle and then back towards the enemies base point. Unlike cp_well, the trains have been extended in size and slowed down, to make them more involved during a battle. The trains are random, and are quite happy to run over and to frustrate RED and BLU equally.
cp_no_mercy_b1 (13mb)
I so looking forward to this map as I enjoy Left 4 Dead and again I hear that this a lot of fun to play. It was inspired by Left 4 Dead's final section of the "Rooftop Finale" of the "No Mercy" campaign. The key to winning this nightmare is to control all of the different elevations at once, with whatever forces you have available. But don't be fooled about finding that perfect spot to protect, chances are the enemy will be able to flank you easily and quickly. Better grab some pills and get ready to survive!
Objectives:
Blu is Assault and Red is Defense. Blu's goal is to capture the helipad at "A", then bring down the security system of the radio building by capturing the power system at "B" and then finally capture the radio building at "C" for the win. Red's goal is to prevent Blu from capturing the radio building at all cost.
Note: Each control point has an indicator projected into the sky to show the approximate location and status of each of the control points.
pl_deadwood (24mb)
One of the most top rated Payload maps around, so I thought it would be a good idea to try it out. Very much like Badwater as it is a single stage payload map with 3 checkpoints (A.B and C) and a final checkpoint which is an explosion pit. According to the feedback I’ve read, this maps work with large and small number of players.
koth_moonshine (20mb)
This map has only been around for 3 weeks, but is making a quite a buzz in the TF2 community. koth_moonshine is set at the base of a mountain stream waterfall, which feeds into an industrial swamp basin community. Both teams move through this industrial swamp community, looking to control a shadowy bayou shipping house, which is a cover for a top-secret surveillance outpost. This high intensity map provides multiple routes to the central point to guarantee vigorous battles as the point changes hands during game play. Just remember… look out for the gator!

No Mercy is going to be great, has to be a dead cert for putting on the map rota, but saying that I think all of them are good contenders.
I won't be surprise if most of them will be going on the map rota after Wednesday night.

This map offers some beautiful sights and great fun.Blu team must escort the cart to the Red's Base. Here, Red have their Rocket, that they plan to destroy BLU HQ with. Fortunately for Blue, red is also dumb enough to have a powerful fan under the rocket. Blu takes this to their advantage, moving the cart to the fan, it blows the cart into the air hitting the rocket. The rocket explodes into pieces and Blue wins!

There are two versions of this theme, a CP map and a KOTH map. We are only going to play the CP map this week and will pay the KOTH map next week. plus there is two version of the CP map. You want the one named cp_pacman_wtf !FINAL!. Pacman in TF2 Form. A complete retro redo of the original Pacman game, map design and layout matches the original game completely. With killer ghosts and Pacman who eats the loosing team, this is a fun map with custom sounds and textures.

You will need the Beta 4 version. ctf_aerospace is a medium sized capture the flag map with emphasis in speed, team dynamics and accessible intel. Each base has a hangar with a "tower" in the back, where the Intel is located in the third floor. The Hangar and Intel room have plenty of different infiltration points so a very strong defence must be set up to prevent the enemy from getting to your Intel. The team must coordinate the attack and defence patterns to surprize the enemy and gain the upper hand.
Just watch out for the pits in the caves and you should be OK.

Swift is a single stage payload map with four checkpoints. The map is set in an Alpine environment as used in Lumberyard. The layout is straightforward for new players, yet there is a learning curve that rewards teamwork and clever play. The many changes from the previous build have all been balance tweaks and making the layout as intuitive as possible.

Note: In the Pacman zip file, there is both versions of the CP map, just install both files into the map folder of your TF2 game. The one we'll be playing this week is called cp_pacman_reg_wtf.bsp and we'll play the other version either next week or the week after.

I like that we now have 24 hours to go on the custom maps but one big problem I have found out is we don't get 20 odd people in at any given time, we got around 8 people max.

I think we have an interesting and varied set of maps for this week’s ‘Orange Wednesday’ If the two winter maps are any good than I can see of them being put onto the map rota at Christmas.

Still in its first beta, but getting a lot of good reviews and comments; HAARP is a brand new Attack and Defend CTF map. Blu must deliver intelligence to capture points in each of three areas in order to win.
H.A.A.R.P. (the High Frequency Active Auroral R.E.D. Project) is stationed inside a huge Red base built in the side of a cliff. In the snowy Alaskan wilderness, they've built antenna arrays and a gigantic satellite dish. But what you don't know is it's really a DOOMSDAY DEVICE that could potentially END THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT. Blue must infiltrate the base and deliver the shutdown override codes before DEATH AND DESTRUCTION RAINS DOWN ON THE WORLD (or something).

In this map you have to push the cart (Mario) to the top of the map to save the princess. The attacking team has to push Mario from the lowest level, similar to the classic Donkey Kong arcade. The attacking team also has one check point that will open up a new spawn room to help with the attack. The defending team has a longer re-spawn time, longer spawn rooms, and has build restrictions in some areas of the upper part of the map.
Remember to check out the spectator camera while you’re waiting to spawn back in, and be careful of the Hammer! Check out the video for an idea of the game.

There is only one intelligence case on ETF maps. Pick it up - and you became the Carrier! Blue team must protect him from any kind of danger, and Red team - kill him at any cost. The Carrier must capture the intelligence in special capture zone to earn victory for Blue team. You can drop the intelligence and change the Carrier only during setup (one minute). Don't try to do it after setup, or your team will immediately fail!
The few basic tips for Blue team:
- Never leave the Carrier alone, its the best way for you to fail.
- Each class got its advantages and disadvantages for the role of the Carrier.
- Keep the Carrier away from Snipers and sentry guns.
- Watch out for Spies.
And for Red team:
- Make the ambush as Pyro, camp in the hidden spot as Sniper, build sentries and teleporters as Engineer, disguise as enemy and kill the Carrier with single backstab as Spy.

I think some of the members of 8U have palyed this map already a few months ago. This is the final version of a series of maps called Blackmesa. Many of the rooms are replicas of the office rooms found in Sector C of Blackmesa (where the player first meets Barney the security guard).
The map is large and handles just about any play style. The cap points are actually spell out the word "B L A C K" This of course is meant to signify the complete name Blackmesa.
The fish in the water will kill you, please do not feed them.

I’ve promise to try this out since Orange Wednesday began, but for some reason I’d also forget it or I had already had enough map suggestions to try out first, so I’m happy now that we are finally going to give it a go.
This is a map for demomen and soldiers where the goal is to bring the intelligence to your opponent's net. Soldiers only use their rockets and demomen use stickies only to jump. If you've played bball2, you know how this plays out. This map was influenced by ctf_bball2, which is a great map, but I felt this is a big improvement on it.

ORANGE WEDNESDAY IS BACK!
After many requests from clan members, (4 votes I think it was and even then I voted for it!) “Orange Wednesday” is coming back this week (25/11/09). For this Wednesday’s event, we are going to play the best maps from the 3rd TF2Maps.net Annual Contest Map Pack, i.e. the ones that have been finished to a decent standard or/and do not break the server. Please download the full map pack from here.
We have had these maps on the server for the last few days and we will play on some of our favourite past custom maps as well. You can find the links to the other maps in the above posts, if you can be @ssed, but I've given you the links anyway. If you play on the server often, well you should have most of these anyway.

Re: Clan Event - Orange Wednesday
It's back and about bl##dy time! I know we haven't done 'Orange Wednesday' since before Xmas, but we have been busy with other things within 8U, (website & reorganising the admin staff) which will now means we can do this each & every week from now on.
For this week's Orange Wednesday, we have put together I great selection of custom maps. I don't think we have had a stronger set of maps to play since last October. All these have never been on the main server before, but are sure you people are going to enjoy playing on them.
As always please download and install each the maps to your game directory, before joining our server tomorrow, as it will mean more time for you to play. But if you want then you can download them through the server when you join.
The maps will be on the server all day, so please check them out at any time tomorrow and most of us should be on the server in the evening (UK time) for some fun and game.
